Roles Available in Digital Commons Data

Within Digital Commons Data, there are two major User Roles available to your institution to aid in dataset management. These roles are Administrator and Moderator. This page provides an overview of the permissions available to these roles and how to add/remove them for members of your institution.

(A third role, Data Monitor, is only relevant if you subscribe to Data Monitor in addition to Digital Commons Data.)

Permissions Available to an Administrator

  • View institutional overview Page (Shows a list of Datasets, Collections, and Projects hosted on the repository; used to navigate to draft datasets)
  • Edit and publish draft datasets
  • Transfer ownership of datasets
  • Remove published datasets (Leaves a tombstone page)
  • Delete collections
  • View audit log (Displays creation, publication, and updates to draft datasets)
  • Customize homepage by adding collections to homepage
  • Manage user permissions
  • Receive Request for Access emails sent to authors of restricted access datasets (if enabled)

Permissions available to a Moderator (if enabled)

Moderation of datasets before publishing is an optional feature. If you would like to enable/disable this feature, please contact DC Data support.

  • Receive Moderation request emails
  • Approve datasets for publication
  • Make minor adjustments to datasets prior to publication
  • Send datasets back to authors for revision before publication

Account Requirements to be an Administrator or Moderator

For a user to be made an administrator or moderator they have to meet the follow requirements:

  • Have an active account in DC Data/Mendeley Data account system
  • DC Data cannot create accounts when adding permissions
  • The user email address must be on a domain set as an allowed domain for the repository

Adding Administrators and Moderators as an Administrator via UI

Navigate to the Admin section of DC Data via the menu in the top right.

Go to the Users page; the page looks like screenshot below.

 
 

Click on the Edit button next to the user, and a window will pop up for that user (see below).

 

Check boxes for any roles the user requires.

Click the Update User button.

Removing Administrators and Moderators as an Administrator via UI

Follow the same process as above, just uncheck boxes for any permissions that need to be removed.
