How Can We Help?
Upload or Search for Images in DCXUpload or Search for Images in DCX
Digital Commons Exhibits (DCX) provides several ways to display images throughout a site.
In addition to images imported from your Digital Commons repository, you can upload banners, logos, thumbnails, and other images directly to DCX. Select Choose an image wherever that option appears.

To add an image within descriptive text on an exhibit, section, or item page, place the cursor in a Paragraph block and type /, then select Image.

You can also select existing text to display the floating toolbar and select the Image icon. Select the pin icon to keep the toolbar visible while you work; select it again to unpin it.
Either method opens the Choose an image window, where you can search for an existing image or upload a new one.
Search for an Image
The Search tab in the Choose an image window displays images previously uploaded to the site or imported into exhibits.
Enter a search term to filter the results. Select an image to use it and close the window.

Upload an Image
To upload an image, select the Upload tab, then select Choose File to locate and select an image on your computer.
Supported formats are AVIF, GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. The maximum file size is 10 MB.

The Title field automatically populates with the selected file's name. Replace it with a concise, meaningful title. The title helps identify the image in search results and is also used as the image's alt text.
In Collection, leave the default site-level option selected to save the image with other images uploaded directly to the site. Select the site or institution name followed by (collections) only to organize the image with images imported from Digital Commons.
Tags are optional but can make images easier to find in larger collections.
Select Upload when finished.
When you add an image within a Paragraph block, a second window displays options for the image layout and alt text.
Edit an Image
Banners, logos, thumbnails, and other image fields
For banners, logos, thumbnails, and similar image fields, select the three-dot menu next to the image. Depending on the context, the menu includes these options:
- Change image: Select a different image from the site or upload a new one.
- Edit this image: Open the image edit page to change the title, replace the file, update its collection or tags, or adjust the focal point.
- Clear choice: Remove the image from the current field without deleting it from the site.

The image edit page includes controls for the title, file, description, collection, tags, and focal area.

Images in Paragraph blocks
For an image inside a Paragraph block, select the image to open its controls. Select Edit to adjust its layout and alt text, or select Delete to remove it from the block.

Managing Images
To view the site's image library, select Images in the administrator sidebar.

On the Images page, you can:
- Search for images.
- Filter and sort the image list.
- Select multiple images for available bulk actions.
- Select Add an image to upload an image for later use.
Select an image to open its edit page. From there, you can change its title, replace the file, edit its description, update its collection or tags, and define or remove a focal area. The page also shows the image’s dimensions, file size, and where it is used in the site.
