How Can We Help?
Upload or Search for Images in DCXUpload or Search for Images in DCX
Digital Commons Exhibits (DCX) includes a number of options for displaying images to enhance the presentation of site content.
In addition to any images that you import to exhibits from your Digital Commons repository, you can upload images such as banners, logos, and thumbnails to DCX. You may upload images wherever you see a Choose an Image button:
You can also add images within descriptive text when customizing an exhibit page, section page, or item page by using the image icon in a paragraph block:
Clicking either of the above options will open a “Choose an Image” window that allows you to upload an image or search for one on your site. See below for more information.
Search for an Image
The Search tab in the "Choose an Image" window shows images previously uploaded to your site or imported to exhibits. Enter search terms to filter the results if needed. Click an image to select it, which closes the window.
If adding an image to descriptive text in a paragraph block, a second window will appear with layout options for the image.
Upload an Image
Switch to the Upload tab in the "Choose an Image" window if you wish to upload an image from your computer. Click the Choose File button to upload an image.
Supported image formats are GIF, JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. The maximum file size is 10 MB.
The Title field will automatically populate with the name of the file you select. You can manually enter a different title if desired. Tags are optional, though helpful for finding images in larger collections.
In the Collection drop-down menu, you can choose where you'd like to save and access the uploaded image later.
- The default option, your institution name by itself, will save the image with other uploaded images on your site.
- Choosing your institution name followed by “(collections)” will instead store the image with images that have been imported to your exhibits from Digital Commons.
Click Upload when finished to add the image. If adding an image within a paragraph block for descriptive text, a second window will appear with placement options for the image.
Edit an Image
Banners, logos, and thumbnails have similar options across the site, including a Change Image button that allows you to replace an existing image that was previously added.
The Edit This Image button provides the ability to rename the image or adjust the focal point, which is especially useful for larger banners if you wish to draw attention to a particular section of the image.
Images in descriptive text for exhibits, sections, or items can be edited or removed by selecting the image in the paragraph block.
Clicking Edit allows you to adjust format and layout options for the image.
Managing Images
To view a library of all images on your DCX site, click Images in the administrator sidebar. On the Images page, you can search for images, move images between collections, or upload an image to your site for later use.
Clicking an image opens the edit window where you can rename the image or adjust the focal point for larger banners.
